Lae Infrastructure Recovery

03/03/2023

Due to changes in the rate structure of ICTSI South Pacific Container Terminal PNG ICCC regulated tariff there is an additional cost to the shipping lines of PGK 150.43 / container handled by the new STS cranes.

Whilst these cranes are expected to provide improved vessel productivity, once fully operational, this cost is not expected to be fully offset by operational savings. As such Swire Shipping must pass this incremental cost to cargo owners.

Swire Shipping will initially mitigate this cost, accounting for expected operational savings. The initial recovery is calculated against a forecasted productivity of 20 moves per hour, per crane. Productivity with previous Mobile Harbour Cranes averaged 11 moves per hour, per crane.

The recovery for the period 20th March* through 30 June 2023 will be PGK 105/Container originating or terminating in Lae (Cost Code LIO/LID). This recovery will initially not be applied to transshipment cargoes.

Swire Shipping will review this recovery against average productivity on a quarterly basis. The initial review will take place in June 2023, for application from 1st July 2023, basis actual productivity performance over this period.

Please contact your local customer service representative should you have any questions.

* For Cargo to/from the United States, or its territories rates will become effective April 3rd, 2023
