Pacifica Shipping to Phase In Redesigned Coastal Shipping Network in August

Something went wrong. Please try after sometime

06/08/2024

New Zealand – Pacifica Shipping (Pacifica), a leading dedicated coastal shipping operator and sustainable domestic cargo carrier in New Zealand, has announced plans to update its coastal shipping network, with the changes to take effect in August. As an independent coastal shipping operator, Pacifica regularly reviews its service schedules to manage and adapt to evolving market conditions, ensure alignment with customer demand, and maintain a sustainable operating model.

The redesigned network will see MV Takutai Chief (which currently calls at Auckland, Lyttelton, Tauranga, and Marsden Point) phase out of service on 26 August, and MV Moana Chief shifting to a new fixed-day weekly rotation covering the ports of Auckland, Lyttelton, Marsden Point and Tauranga from 25 August for the voyage departing Lyttelton. In line with these changes, Pacifica will no longer make direct port calls to the port of Timaru, with the final voyage being MV Takutai Chief Voyage 0199, departing 24 August. To support customers in Timaru, Pacifica can offer options for landside routing to connect with the vessel at Lyttelton, with weekly connections to Auckland, Marsden Point and Tauranga.

These changes present opportunities for Pacifica to increase the number of weekly sailings offered on its front haul between Auckland and Christchurch, via MV Moana Chief and supported by alternative services.

Alistair Skingley, Country Manager – New Zealand, Swire Shipping, said, “While the current operating environment presents challenges, Pacifica remains committed to building a resilient coastal shipping network in New Zealand, connecting key North and South Island regions as we have done for nearly 40 years. We will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities and our partners to support New Zealand’s domestic transport infrastructure and ensure our customers continue to enjoy reliable access to coastal space and dedicated year-round capacity.”

More details on the changes, the phase-in/phase-out schedules and a summary of the revised sailing schedules can be found on Pacifica’s website.
